Well I have just spent a large chunk of time designing the most fabulous Mind Map which consisited of the Three Frameworks - Dimensions Of Learning, The Big Six and Productive Pedagogies. Alas I believe that the Mind Map may have been too large and upon saving the Map has disappeared into the world of cyberspace. It is my thought to use a number of different frameworks when designing learning. The three I have considered could cross over and complement each other.
The Dimensions Of Learning is about the learning process and thinking. It is not as simple as the Big Six however it does cover a whole range of aspects of learning including the classroom climate and not only the learning but the attitudes and influencing factors which either affect or promote learning.
The Big Six are simple, they get right to the point and are known to be favoured for teaching information technology. This is a limited framework and could not be used alone for most applications. If we did not have another framework to use in tandem then the students attitudes and perceptions and a whole range of other considerations would not be addressed.
The Productive Pedagogies are an extensive framework for planning and design. They cover a wide range of definitive points to consider when planning for higher order thinking and lifelong learning.
Come for a Chat
You are invited to come and have a virtual cup of tea, a bottle of champagne, or a nice cosy, rich, smooth, hot chocolate, with me, in this snug little nook. If the table does not suit you, I have the most beautiful, intimate, friendly, and warm, lounge area on the other side of the room where you can relax, unwind, and chat in dulcet tones, and leave the troubles of the world behind. Yes "we are doing it tough at Uni", and this is a place you can come and be yourself, and be treated like you are the most important person on the planet, (which you are - no-one realises it yet). You may eat and drink anything to order, everything is made fresh to your specific taste, and you will be looked after so that you feel safe, and secure, in this place. The company will be relaxed and entertaining, and you will feel energised, happy, and will laugh many times, because you are having the most wonderful time. I look forward to your visit. Bye from Gema.
hi Gema, I am in total accord with your thoughts regarding cross linking the different frameworks. I believe that that no single framework is the be all end all awswer to all elements needed to be considered when lesson planning. Cheers, Bec

I have a personal leaning towards Bloom's, but as you say you can pick the useful bits out of many and mix them together.
